About Salome

I connect the worlds of art and law. A self-taught painter and printmaker with a background in commercial law. A decade refining my artistic identity and emerging as an exhibiting artist. Now I help other professionals do the same.

MY STORY

artist

An unconventional start

I discovered painting serendipitously during my sabbatical from law. While organising my garage, I stumbled upon my high school art bag containing acrylic paints, brushes, chalk pastels, and an untouched sketchpad. The sun was shining as I sat in my garden, laid out the contents of the bag, and started to paint. "The Gathering" (2017) was the first piece that truly excited me to share my work; it possesses an ephemeral, dreamlike quality, as if reconstructing a memory.

Studio Practice

I moved to my first studio space in 2020. Before then, I was painting at home on my dining room table (sometimes the floor). Lockdown made it apparent that I needed a dedicated space where I could instantly get into the zone without the distractions of household life. I found a studio at Pullens Yard in Kennington. It was a corner of a shared office space with a green jellybean desk and three floating shelves. The space was limited, but with a few tools and materials laid out and my favourite things around me, I created some of my most inspired work.

Printmaking

I began screen printing at Sonsoles, a member’s led Print Studio based in Peckham, London. I’ve honed my printmaking skills over time, including studying at The Art Academy in London, and two years dedicated to printmaking in Japanese woodcut and screen printing.

I’ve participated in group and solo exhibitions, including: the New English Art Club (NEAC) Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries. Find out more about exhibitions.

lawyer

Big law and banks

As a child I always wanted to be a lawyer and I come from a long line of lawyers - my great-grand father was a judge. My legal career began at Clifford Chance, before that I studied law at the London School of Economics.

My industry expertise is in investment banking and structured finance, working as a legal consultant for banks and asset management (Barclays, Bank of New York, Societe Generale).

Committees and lecturing

In 2019, I was elected to the council of The Law Society of & Wales representing a constituency of 20,000+ lawyers, meeting regularly to discuss the profession. I’m also an independent committee member, on the board of the City of London Law Society (CLLS) and a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Law where I teach business law, M&A, ethics and professional conduct.

Speaking about what I love

I come alive when I speak about my art practice (painting, printmaking and photography). Deeply fascinated with personal branding, leadership and creativity – in particular, the link between creative exploration and leadership; and how people can build diverse and fulfilling careers by developing their creative confidence. I present keynotes and speak on panel.Clients have included: Slaughter and May, University of Cambridge, CMS, Linklater’s. Find out more about speaking

I write a newsletter on creativity. I’m exploring the intersection between creativity and law; it’s a personal quest and intellectual exercise.
